Make a difference and join the Diverse Selection Board Inventory

June 21, 2022 -  Defence Stories

At DND, we recognize that diversity is our strength, and we are taking action to build a workplace that welcomes and embraces individual differences. To support this, ADM (HR-Civ) is expanding an important initiative to address systemic barriers in our staffing regime, and we need your help!

To ensure that all candidates in staffing processes have the opportunity to be evaluated by assessment teams that represent diversity, we are fully launching the Diverse Selection Board Inventory (DSBI). Previously launched as a pilot, the DSBI is comprised of volunteers who represent diversity and are available to DND hiring managers as selection board members. In order to successfully expand this initiative, we are looking for both civilian and military members of equity seeking groups (i.e. Black, Indigenous, people of colour, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2+ as well as women in fields where they are underrepresented) across all L1s to self-identify and express interest in participating. As a member of this inventory, you would be called upon, from time-to-time, to be an integral part of completing candidate assessments that will contribute to ensuring unbiased and equitable staffing practices within DND.

Individuals with experience in staffing, candidate assessment and who have existing sub-delegation authority are particularly needed. However, all participants will be given support and guidance from our Anti-Racism Staffing Taskforce, including training and best practices, and information on how they will be contacted to participate on selection boards.

We recognize the time and effort that would be involved in participating in this initiative and appreciate your dedication to working together to make concrete and lasting change. Your participation can also contribute to your professional development goals, including the inclusive behaviours (accessible only on the National Defence network) component of your performance agreement.

Your contribution will have a direct impact on changing the culture and moving the bar towards creating the workforce of the future.

If you are interested, please let us know by contacting the Taskforce at ARST-GTDA@forces.gc.ca to learn more.

Thank you and we look forward to working with you.
