A Celebration of Many – Building and Celebrating the Black Communities within the Defence Team

In honour of Black History Month, the Defence Team Black Employees Network (DTBEN) (accessible only on the National Defence network) is conducting a number of activities to recognise and celebrate Black Canadians, and Black Defence Team members in particular. We will be participating in a virtual coffee chat with Deputy Minister Bill Mathews near the end of the month, joining the National Defence Black History Month event: Ours to Tell on February 6, and hosting our first in-person networking event of the year on February 10.

Come out to celebrate, network, and grow your sense of community and belonging.

The Defence Team Black Employees Network (DTBEN) is a grassroots network focused on serving the wellbeing of the Black civilian and military members within the Defence Team (DT). Our efforts are in large part dedicated to providing peer support by bringing Black employees and members together to share their experiences, explore, discuss and create meaningful actions to support the dismantling of persistent anti-Black racism in the DT, and to build a vibrant community of Black DT members. DTBEN is here to provide a safe space for all Black DT employees to connect, discuss barriers and challenges they face in the workplace and, most importantly, to support one another. We provide tools, guidance and a venue to help bridge those gaps, such as through “Lunch and Learns,” by bringing in experts to help alleviate the areas of concern.
