Minister Brison and MP Fraser announce infrastructure investments for 14 Wing Greenwood and Aldershot

As part of the Government of Canada's commitment to ensure our Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have the necessary facilities to train, work, and live for the years to come, the Government of Canada will invest $3.7 million to improve critical infrastructure at 14 Wing Greenwood and the 5th Canadian Division Support Base (5 CDSB) Detachment Aldershot. This investment is part of the $200 million announced for Defence infrastructure in the 2016 Federal Budget.
Minister Scott Brison, Treasury Board President and Member of Parliament for Kings–Hants, and Colin Fraser, Member of Parliament for West Nova, made the announcement on behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan.
Through this $3.7 million investment, 14 Wing Greenwood will upgrade a hangar and the airfield, which are critical to their search and rescue (SAR) and sovereignty and surveillance operations. The Base will also perform work to increase the energy performance of the Annapolis Mess. At the 5 CDSB Detachment Aldershot, a road and training area will undergo upgrades.
The dignitaries also participated in a ground-breaking ceremony for the Wing’s new air traffic control tower. A nine-storey tower will be built to replace the existing facility, which is undersized and outdated. The new facility will meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification. The project represents an investment of $34 million and includes an off-site transmitter station which was completed this summer. This project is funded from the existing departmental budget.

- As announced in Budget 2016, the Government of Canada will invest $200 million over the next two years in infrastructure at CAF bases and other defence properties across Canada. The investments will allow the repair of airfields, hangars, live-fire ranges, jetties, armouries, and military housing, as well as improvements to Northern infrastructure.
- In 2015, $103 million over two years was announced for National Defence military housing between 2015 and 2017. Over the past year, $4 million was spent on several key 14 Wing Greenwood military housing projects. An additional $4 million is planned this year for similar projects.
