Delivering better health, mental, and dental services for CAF members at CFB Borden

News Release

January 18, 2017 — Borden, Ontario — National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Recognizing the sacrifices military personnel make in the service of their country, the Government of Canada is committed to ensuring Canadian Armed Forces personnel receive high quality health care and support. On behalf of Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, Leona Alleslev, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada, and Kyle Peterson, Member of Parliament for Newmarket-Aurora, took part in an inauguration ceremony today to mark the opening of a new Health Services Centre at CFB Borden.

The new centre will provide mental health services, as well as medical and dental care to more than 3,250 military members in Borden, and consolidates dental, medical, mental health, and physiotherapy services in one centrally-located facility.

The total cost of the project, including design, construction, other associated costs, and taxes, was $32.2 million, which provided economic opportunities for the local community and helped to create new middle-class jobs and opportunities for businesses during the construction phase. Some of the former clinic buildings will be renovated by CFB Borden to house classroom and training facilities.

While at CFB Borden, the Parliamentary Secretary also highlighted the recent renovations made to 25 housing units on the base to improve the quality of life of CAF members and their families by providing them with modernized houses. This $3 million investment was announced in 2015-2016.
