Government completes new vehicle maintenance facility at CFB Kingston

As outlined in Canada’s defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the Government of Canada is investing in Defence infrastructure to provide our military personnel with modern, functional, and green facilities in which to work and train.
Today, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, announced the completion of a new vehicle maintenance and transportation facility for the Integrated Logistics Section (ILS) at CFB Kingston. The $48.5-million project was completed in June 2020 and provided economic benefits for the community by generating about 180 jobs during construction.
The centralized, 9,910-m2 facility provides a single, convenient location for ILS operations. The new facility consolidates maintenance, transport, and supply functions on the base, and provides personnel with more space for storage, vehicle maintenance, and transport operations. The space and layout provided will reduce repair time, minimize costs of contracting out maintenance work, and ensure personnel have adequate storage to better support future growth at CFB Kingston.

ILS personnel are responsible for maintaining over 900 vehicles and 800 boats, including cars, buses, armoured vehicles, bulldozers, excavators, and more.

The $34-million construction contract for this project was awarded to QuadPro Construction of Richmond Hill, Ont. The $2.7-million design contract was awarded to Colbourne & Kembel Architects of Kingston, Ont.

This new ILS facility was designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver standards, and uses about 25% less energy than industry standard facilities of similar size.
