Canada Army Run returns with in-person and virtual events in 2022

News release

November 8, 2022 – Ottawa, ON. – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Thousands of Canadians gathered in downtown Ottawa for the return of Canada Army Run on November 6 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a delay of the event, following the passing of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, originally slated for September 18. This weekend, the participants were able to once again run, walk and roll side-by-side with members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) through the streets of Ottawa during the 5K and 10K races, finishing at the National War Memorial. The event was kicked off by Lieutenant-General Jocelyn (Joe) Paul, Commander Canadian Army. Those unable to participate in-person were able to show their support by walking, running and rolling during the virtual event, which was also extended from September to November 7.

In addition to being an opportunity for Canadians to thank CAF members who serve at home and abroad, Canada Army Run directly supports serving members, Veterans and their families, with race proceeds and fundraising efforts going to Support Our Troops and Soldier On.

The Canada Army Run theme for 2022 recognized the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Canadian Rangers, with elements highlighting the past and present contributions made by Canadian Rangers in Canada’s remote, coastal and isolated regions.

Winners from this year’s included Denita Hammond (Soldier On 5K & Soldier On 5K+10K challenge), Sebastian Saville (5K), Evan Goodwin (10K Soldier On), Joshua Karanja (10K) and Lynda Gingras (5K + 10K).

Canada Army Run is “No Ordinary Race.” It's a community, a camaraderie, and a symbol of support to CAF members and their families.

Quotes

“The 2022 Canada Army Run was a great opportunity for Canadians to connect with Army members, and all for a great cause: raising funds for Soldier On and Support Our Troops, two charitable causes which support ill and injured CAF members and their families.”
