Donate Ecologically Sensitive Land – Protect Nature Challenge

The Ecological Gifts Program is a great option to help protect ecologically sensitive lands.

This program ensures that land is forever protected from development. It offers significant tax benefits to landowners who donate ecologically sensitive land or an eligible interest or right in land, such as an easement, a covenant, or a servitude, which means you can still use the protected land.

Since 1995, landowners in Canada have donated more than 1,550 ecological gifts, protecting more than 205,000 hectares of land.

Many of these gifts contain habitats that have national, provincial or regional importance and include rare or threatened habitats that are home to species at risk.

Ecological gifts and the motivations behind them are as varied as the Canadian landscape!

Donations range from forested land in the Gulf Islands donated by corporations in British Columbia to Atlantic communities pulling together to preserve treasured coastal habitat.

No matter where they come from, all donors know their land will become a legacy for future generations.
