Grants and funding for skilled trades and apprenticeship

Grants, loans, and funding programs to help apprentices, employers, unions, and other organizations participate in apprenticeship. Grants and program funding are provided through the Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy.

For apprentices and tradespeople

Canada Apprentice Loan

Up to $4,000 in interest-free loans.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)

$1,000 per year or level after completing the first or second year in a designated Red Seal trade.

Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG)

Lifetime amount of $2,000 for registered apprentices who complete their training and have a journeyperson certification.

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women (AIG-W)

Apprentices whose first year or second year progression date is after March 31, 2023 may still submit documentation.

For unions, employers, and other organizations

Apprenticeship Service

Employers can get up to $10,000 in support to hire new first-year apprentices.

Innovation in Apprenticeship

Funding for innovative projects that address apprenticeship challenges in the Red Seal trades.

Investments in Training Equipment

Funding for projects that increase investment in training equipment, materials, or new technology.

Skilled Trades Awareness and Readiness Program

Support for projects that encourage individuals to explore and prepare for careers in the skilled trades.

Women in Skilled Trades Initiative

Funding for projects to recruit and retain women apprentices, in Red Seals trades in construction and manufacturing sectors.
