The Department of National Defence (DND) employs over 100 cost estimators with a variety of backgrounds, including engineers, actuarial scientists, accountants, and mathematicians. They work across Canada to support the Defence Programme. Analyzing
- Cost estimating result to ensure they are logical, and align with the supporting data, identified risks and underlying assumptions.
- Project financial expenditures and forecasts to identify risks and conformity with project approvals.
Governance
- Play an active role in the corporate oversight as projects move for concept to project closeout, including advising senior leadership of significant risks.
- Review proposals for presentation at corporate oversight committees to represent the interests of the CFO, or provide recommendations and speaking points for senior leaderships’ participation.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Working with colleagues from a variety of fields from across the department to work as a trusted partner to support the advancement of the projects outlined in the Strong, Secure, Engaged Defence Policy, while ensuring decisions makers are duly informed of the underlying assumptions and risks of the proposal.
