NARRATOR: The Canada Revenue Agency

We are Canada's tax and benefits administrator.

Every day, we contribute to the quality of life in Canada by delivering world-class tax and benefit services. We work hard to earn the confidence of Canadians and to make sure our services meet their needs.

We are one of the largest government departments, with employees in every region—more than 40,000 across Canada.

We handle over $1 billion a day…every day of the year.

Our information technology systems process over 18 million tax returns that are filed electronically during the tax filing season.

On April 30th alone, our systems successfully handle over 1 million returns.

We are an important part of the engine that helps Canada operate.

We collect all federal and most provincial and territorial taxes. These taxes finance public programs and services across the country.

Our partnerships with the provinces and territories help us achieve our mission while minimizing the burden on Canadians.

Each year, we process over $400 billion in taxes and duties to support Canada's public services and to process and distribute social benefits.

And each year we deliver about $22 billion in benefits and credits to Canadians. Those payments include the GST/HST credit and the disability tax credit.

We support Canada's economic growth, helping Canadian businesses to innovate.

We administer the largest federal program supporting business research and development in Canada, providing over $3 billion in tax assistance to Canadian businesses every year.

We are responsible for registering charities in Canada and for making sure they use their resources for charitable purposes.

There are over 85,000 charities registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.

We keep a list of all registered charities that Canadians can search to learn about how each charity spends its resources.

One of our priorities is to continually improve our services to businesses and individuals.

We meet with small businesses across the country to find ways to reduce red tape.

With our community partners, we train volunteers to prepare income tax returns for people who need help.

Each year, through our community volunteer income tax program, over 18,000 volunteers file over half a million returns.

We offer many secure online services that make it easy for Canadians to manage their tax affairs 24/7 - from filing and paying, to keeping track of their interactions with the CRA.

We strive to make it easier for Canadians to ask for, and to get, tax and benefit information through our telephone call centre, answering over 23 million calls a year.

And through our website, which is one of the most visited government websites, with over 100 million visits every year.

Our efforts bring results.

Canada is consistently rated as one of the top 10 countries for tax administration.

We are a diverse workforce, dedicated to integrity, professionalism, respect, and cooperation, and committed to the highest level of service.

We are the Canada Revenue Agency.
