Bella Mouchet

Bella grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. Raised by an adventurous family, she has spent much of her life in the vast landscapes of the Yukon. Her love of the outdoors and interest in the natural world has led her to pursue a career in sciences.

She is currently completing her undergraduate degree in environmental science at Carleton University. Her undergraduate honours thesis is part of an ongoing long-term investigation of ice-ocean-atmosphere processes on Ellesmere Island. She will be looking for evidence of subglacial melting to better understand the dynamics involved in glacial movement. She is hoping her work will contribute to a better understanding of long-term stability and movement of glaciers across polar regions.

Bella was drawn to study polar regions by her passion for science and her love for the North. She has spent much of her summers doing field work in the Yukon ranging from wildlife biology to mine remediation and hydrology. Combining her passion for science and her love, respect and pride for the North has always been a dream for Bella. She hopes to continue to study and advocate for the region throughout her life.
