The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has a dedicated team that offers technical support for multiple electronic data interchange (EDI) applications used to transmit data and documents at various stages of the commercial importing and exporting process. The same team also offers technical support for the eManifest Portal and the Canadian Export Reporting System (CERS) Portal.

Before you contact this technical support team for help, consult this list for information they will ask you to provide.

Footnote 1

Transaction number: A transaction number is composed of numbers only and is 14 characters. The first five digits of the transaction number is the broker's or importer's account security number (for example, 12345123456789).

Footnote 2

Cargo control number (CCN): Also referred to as a transport document number, a master bill of lading or an air waybill, a CCN is a reference number assigned by a carrier or a carrier's agent to transport a shipment. This number can be up to 25 characters and contain both numbers and letters. A CCN starts with a CBSA-approved carrier code, which is a 4-character code assigned to a consortium carrier. A carrier code may be comprised of a combination of numbers and letters or just numbers.

Supplementary reference number (SRN): Also referred to as a House Bill of lading, an SRN provides supplementary data for a CCN. This number can be up to 25 characters and contain both numbers and letters. An SRN starts with a carrier code, which is a 4-character code assigned to either the carrier or freight forwarder sending the transmission.

Conveyance reference number (CRN): This is a unique reference number given by the carrier to a certain journey or departure. This number can be up to 25 characters and contain both numbers and letters. A CRN starts with a carrier code, which is a 4-character code assigned to a consortium carrier.
