Please accept my sincere condolences following the passing of Right Honorable Brian Mulroney. His contributions to the Canada-Japan relations will be a lasting inspiration for all involved in diplomatic relations with Japan.
On behalf of the European Union, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the people of Canada.
As a teenager during the era of free trade and constitutional reform, I was inspired by prospects they held for me and my generation, so I got actively involved. I pursued university studies aligned with free trade, contributed to the Citizen's Forum, supported Mulroney's 1988 campaign, and even wrote to the PMO, receiving a reply signed by Mr Mulroney.
When I see cynicism in modern Canadian politics, I recall how a sitting prime minister engaged me; that buouys my hope for the future.
It is with sadness that I express, on behalf of the United States, sincere condolences at the passing of the Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, P.C., C.C., G.O.Q., former Prime Minister of Canada. He will be remembered as an admirable Canadian leader distinguished by his government’s economic policies, favorable bilateral relations with international partners, and his achievements in human rights & social justice issues throughout the years. He served his country with honor. May his soul rest in peace.
