Colonel N. Isenor, CD

Colonel (Col) Isenor was born in Thompson, Manitoba and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Ottawa, Ontario.  She is a graduate of University of Manitoba, (B.A. – 1994 and LL B -1997), and Queen’s University (LL M - 2012).  She was called to the bar and became a member of the Law Society of Manitoba in 1998.  After working for a brief period as defence counsel in private practice, she enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as a member of the Office of the Judge Advocate General in January 1999.
 
Col Isenor served in a number of positions within the OJAG from 1999 until her appointment as a Military Judge in August 2024.  She served as a prosecutor in the Directorate of Military Prosecutions from April 1999 - July 2002, Legal Advisor to the Royal Military College from July 2002 – July 2003, Deputy Judge Advocate Trenton from July 2003 - July 2006, Canadian Legal Advisor to NORAD in Colorado Springs from July 2006 – August 2009, Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit (CJIRU) Legal Advisor from August 2009 – August 2013, in the Military Justice Operations directorate from August 2013 - October 2013, Special Assistant 2 to the JAG from October 2013 – July 2014, Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) HQ Legal Advisor from July 2014 – September 2015, Director of Strategic Joint Staff Legal Advisors from September 2015 – September 2016, Director of Law Intelligence and Information Operations Directorate from September 2016 – July 2017, Assistant Deputy Judge Advocate General Operations from July 2018 – July 2019, Assistant Deputy Judge Advocate General Military Justice from July 2019 - July 2022, and as the Deputy Judge Advocate General Military Justice in charge of the Military Justice Division from July 2023 – August 2024 where she was directly responsible to support the Judge Advocate General in the fulfillment of his statutory responsibility as the superintendent of the administration of military justice in the Canadian Armed forces and to ensure its responsible development within the Canadian justice system.

Col Isenor has advised both conventional and special forces on all aspects of international and operational law. Col Isenor deployed to Bosnia between March – September 2003 as the Senior Legal Advisor and to Afghanistan from September 2010 – March 2011.  Domestically, Col Isenor deployed in support of the 2010 G8/G20 Summit and to the 2010 Winter Olympics where she provided legal advice to CANSOFCOM.   

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of National Defence, appointed Col Isenor a military judge, effective 28 August 2024.

Col Isenor and her husband reside in Ottawa and have four children.
