The presence of genetically modified flaxseed may affect contractual or quality assurance requirements for some markets. The Canadian Grain Commission offers a proficiency testing program for laboratories performing DNA-based tests to detect unauthorized genetically modified events in flaxseed.
One type of DNA-based proficiency test is available for flaxseed:
- Qualitative real time PCR test – FP967 (CDC Triffid) in flaxseed
Program features
Participants will receive:
- six samples of flaxseed DNA spiked with different concentrations of FP967 and a negative FP967 sample, once per year
- a notification email when the proficiency test samples are shipped that includes information on the deadline for submitting results
- a confidential and unique laboratory code
- a form for submitting results
- a final report with their results and the results of all other participants (identified only by laboratory code)
