"A culture of gratitude helps people realize how truly fortunate they are and instills a desire to pay that forward."

- Karl Sun

Do you know of a co-worker who deserves a special shout-out or are you looking for a way to recognize someone who has made an impact, big or small? Virtual Shout-Outs are a quick and easy way for you to publicly recognize a colleague, or team of colleagues, for a job well done.

Here’s how to submit a Virtual Shout-out:

Note that shout-out recipients will be given the option to “opt out” of having their message displayed on the Bulletin Board (accessible only on the National Defence network) on the Maple Leaf and the Defence Team intranet, and submissions can remain anonymous.

Don’t delay! Virtually shout-out your hard-working colleagues today!

“I would love to recognize my co-worker Tyla Tong.

For those who remember their first day on a new job know how unnerving it can be. Back in April I started with DND and one of my office mate’s went out of her way to make it the best onboarding experience possible. Meeting with me early first thing in the morning to make sure I knew where is was going, coming with me to get my ID all sorted, and making sure I had someone to sit and eat lunch with. It might not sound like a big deal but for many people the first day and be overwhelming and she made it feel a lot less lonely.

It doesn’t stop there as Tyla takes time every day to check in with me and see how I am doing. I can’t say it enough, but I am so thankful to have a mentor who is as engaged and committed to the well-being of new employee’s the way that Tyla is. You can see it in the people she interacts with daily that this amazing personality is not reserved for new employees, but rather it is a commitment in how she shows up every day for everyone.

Your spark will always shine through in the eyes of the people you help. Thank you” – Ryan Somcher

“We would like to give a Virtual SHOUT-OUT to Nujin Mohammadi for her commitment to the DMGSP Directorate! She has shown great dedication in providing administrative services during staff shortages. She has always been willing to take on new tasks and assist whenever and wherever required. Nujin, we truly appreciate all your hard work and commitment to the team! Keep up the good work!” – From the DMGSP Team

“I would like to send a BIG Shout Out to Karen Hart of DDIMP in the IM Group. Without hesitation Karen stepped up in a time of need to manage the IT Investment Plan during a resource shortage. She went above and beyond and outside of her comfort zone to help us out. Through her diligence, attention to detail, thorough follow up, and hard work she has become very knowledgeable on the topic and has helped keep the file moving along with some improvements too! Thank you, Karen!” – Cathy McAsey

“I wanted to give a shout out to Kelly Nicolson from the SDSO Team! A teammate and I had trouble with an HRMS Request Form and we just could not figure it out. Kelly met with each of us to determine the problem, walked us through the troubleshooting, and followed-up with us to make sure we got it all sorted out. She is so knowledgeable and very patient! Thank you Kelly for your help, we appreciate you!” – Kathleen Doucette

“I’d like to give a virtual shout out to MCpl Ryan Prevost. Thank you for stepping into the Sgt’s role and taking care of the members and client’s needs within 764 Comm Sqn COMSEC and within the NCR. We couldn’t have moved forward without you and the enormous amount of work you are doing, we literally could not do this without you!” – Erik Dumouchel

“I wish to send a Virtual Shout-Out to the team at the National Centre of Expertise for Language Training and Testing which delivers the second language training program for Executives. While the support & coaching of Gérard-Alain Michel deserves special mention, as my primary instructor, I am also deeply appreciative of the professionalism and empathy demonstrated by all of the language teachers and coordinators with whom I interacted during my training. Thanks to the flexibility of this program and its dedicated and expert language teachers, I was able to integrate training into my schedule with minimal disruption for my team, and to significantly strengthen my second language abilities. This program and its teachers are truly among DND’s jewels!” – Shannon Smith
