Sameer Zuberi

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities

Represents the riding of Pierrefonds—Dollard

Sameer Zuberi was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Pierrefonds—Dollard in 2019, and was re-elected in 2021.

He currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development and Chair of its prominent Subcommittee on International Human Rights. He has been a member of various other parliamentary committees, associations, and groups, including the Committee on Justice and Human Rights and the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs.

Mr. Zuberi previously worked in education, and spent a year working as an English teacher in Kuwait. After graduating from law school in 2014, he became a Diversity and Engagement Officer for McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine, where he helped promote inclusion for students of diverse backgrounds, including students from Black, Indigenous, and rural communities. He also served for five years in the Canadian Army Reserve.

Mr. Zuberi is a strong advocate for the respect of minorities and is passionate about the issues that matter most to Canadians – including the fight against climate change, diversity and inclusion, and the preservation of language rights in Quebec. He was a member of the Conseil interculturel de Montréal, served on the board of the West Island Assistance Fund, and was one of the founding members and Vice-Chair of the Quebec Section of the Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association.

Mr. Zuberi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Laws from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). In 2014, he was the first recipient of UQAM’s Justice Juanita Westmoreland-Traoré scholarship, in recognition of his social engagement.

Mr. Zuberi lives in the riding of Pierrefonds—Dollard with his wife and their two daughters.
