# 2021-184 Pay and Benefits, Leave travel assistance, Separation expense

Leave travel assistance (LTA), Separation expense (SE)

Case summary

F&R Date: 2021-10-21

The grievor contested being denied his Leave travel assistance (LTA) claim to visit his spouse, who was living in a foreign country. As redress, the grievor requested that his LTA claim be reimbursed.

The Initial Authority (IA) found that the grievor did not satisfy all of the conditions for entitlement to the LTA in Compensation and Benefit Instructions (CBI) 209.50(3), as the grievor was not entitled to separation expense or away from his place of duty for service reasons. The IA did not afford redress.

The Committee found that the grievor did not meet the conditions in CBI 209.50(3) for entitlement to LTA and was treated in accordance with policy.

The Committee recommended that the Final Authority (FA) not afford redress.

FA Decision Summary

The FA, Director Canadian Forces Grievance Authority, agreed with the Committee's findings and recommendation, and declined to grant the redress sought.
