Application Hosting Strategy

In December 2023, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat announced a new direction for application hosting within the Government of Canada (GC).‌ Application hosting is the process of deploying and running software applications on servers located in data centres or on cloud-based infrastructure.‌

The Application Hosting Strategy (originally announced as the GC Cloud Strategy 2024) represents a new approach to addressing the evolving hosting needs across government. It focuses on choosing the most suitable hosting model for applications, based on cost effectiveness and business value, to support the delivery of digital services to Canadians.‌

Under the strategy, Shared Services Canada (SSC) will oversee hosting services for the entire GC, including both cloud and data centres.‌

The Framework Agreements (FA)—existing contracts with cloud service providers— continue to operate throughout the gradual implementation of the new strategy. We are currently assessing the implications for GC cloud services users and will share this information once additional details emerge.‌
