The National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions - Governance of the study

The Public Health Agency of Canada is working with Neurological Health Charities Canada, Health Canada, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to oversee the implementation of this study through a joint Implementation Committee.

The Implementation Committee is supported by the following Expert Advisory Groups:

  • A Scientific Advisory Committee which provides feedback and expert scientific advice, as well as independent ongoing oversight and evaluation of the scientific elements of the study to the Implementation Committee. Such scientific elements include: the funded research projects, three national surveys, the microsimulation component and the scientific synthesis process taking place in the final year of the study.
  • A Survey Component Working Group which provides advice to the Public Health Agency of Canada on the content, design and analysis of the surveys included as part of the National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions.
  • A Working Group on Health and Economic Modelling of Neurological Conditions, which comprises of experts with clinical knowledge in neurology, health economics and microsimulation modelling expertise, and guides the Public Health Agency of Canada and Statistics Canada in developing microsimulation models.
  • A Canadian Chronic Disease Surveillance System Working Group which provides advice and support to project teams. This Working Group helps the teams develop and use provincial and territorial administrative data to provide the basis for ongoing surveillance of selected neurological conditions through the Public Health Agency of Canada's Canadian Chronic Disease Surveillance System. This Working Group also facilitates the sharing of results with the provinces and territories.
