Call for expressions of interest: Compliance Oversight Committee
Canada’s three federal research funding agencies (the agencies)—the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) are seeking expressions of interest for First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals to participate in the Compliance Oversight Committee.
The Compliance Oversight Committee will be entrusted to examine select submitted complaints or allegations, as necessary, under the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation and to deliver a recommendation to the president of the agency (CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC) program implicated in the allegation.
Committee members will adhere to a strict code of confidentiality in all matters related to the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation and are prohibited from discussing outside of the committee’s deliberations any allegations submitted.
Time commitment
Members of the Compliance Oversight Committee are appointed by the presidents of the three agencies. Initial appointments are for three years, with the possibility of extension for one to three years, for a maximum total of six years. Appointments will be staggered to provide flexibility and continuity.
The committee will meet on an as-needed basis.
Compensation
Service as a committee member is voluntary. Any member asked to travel for in-person meetings will be reimbursed for their travel, accommodation and expenses based on standard Government of Canada rates.
How to apply
Interested individuals are invited to submit the following documents to show their interest in being considered for membership:
- a two- to three-page freeform document that outlines their lived experience as an Indigenous person, including the experiences and perspectives they have that would contribute to fulfilling the committee’s mandate; and
- confirmation of Indigenous citizenship or membership, per the Tri-Agency Policy on Indigenous Citizenship and Membership Affirmation and as outlined in its associated directive.
Individuals may also voluntarily submit a signed letter of support for their application from their community.
