Meet Marianne.
Originally from beautiful Gatineau, this talented Senior Writer-Editor is the heart behind the French magic happening every day at our agency. From departmental reports to social media posts, Marianne’s passion for the language and commitment to quality shine through.
She began her federal government journey as a student and later joined us from PrairiesCan, bringing a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for French. Thanks to her, our communications are clear, impactful, and beautifully written in both official languages.
When she is not managing a flurry of translation requests or refining bilingual content, Marianne makes the most of every season outdoors. An avid hiker, rollerblader, snowshoer, and social dancer, she also finds time to indulge her passion for reading.

How did you arrive at PacifiCan?
I joined the public service in 2017 at Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) through the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP). I initially worked part-time as a translator for two years and was later hired on an indeterminate basis after completing my studies. When WD split into two agencies, I stayed at PrairiesCan. Then, this year, I had an opportunity for advancement at PacifiCan, which is why I joined the Communications team.
What interested you about PacifiCan?
Since I had already been working at PrairiesCan, and before that at WD, I was familiar with the organization’s mission, vision, and culture. I knew I would feel at home at PacifiCan and that people would make me feel welcome, and that’s exactly what happened. What motivated me to move to PacifiCan was the opportunity for career advancement and the challenge of working completely autonomously. This new position is an excellent opportunity to push my limits, hone my skills, and increase my confidence in my abilities.
What do you do on a typical day?
On a regular day, I manage the translation department’s email inbox, coordinate client requests, send documents to freelancers for translation, revise their work, and translate documents and short texts myself. My days involve email exchanges with clients and freelancers to answer their questions, as well as online research on all kinds of subjects to fully understand the texts and translate them faithfully.
You might think that translation is mainly about reading and writing, but research is actually a big part of my day! I translate all of the Agency’s documents, from staff emails and Human Resources job postings to departmental reports, web pages, and social media posts.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I find it rewarding to promote the French language as part of my work. It’s important that French-speaking minorities in every part of the country have access to content in French. As a translator, I contribute to the protection and development of the French language, and I’m committed to producing high-quality texts that do justice to the language; I want to bring it to life and enrich it. It’s also rewarding to receive appreciation messages from colleagues who are satisfied with my work and grateful to receive translated documents on time. I take pride in meeting clients’ needs!
What city are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Gatineau, Quebec, where I still live today.
When did you start at PacifiCan?
I joined PacifiCan’s Communications team in March 2025.
What have you enjoyed about your role at Pacifican thus far?
What I love most about my role at PacifiCan so far is the people I work with—their support, their encouragement, their recognition, their humour, and more. The people at PacifiCan are passionate about what they do. They care about helping others and producing high-quality work. They support and encourage one another, and I find that very inspiring. We always recognize and celebrate each other’s successes, and we feel that our work matters and is appreciated.
Any advice you have for people who may want to join PacifiCan?
I would highly recommend that they give it a try. The fantastic people who work here, the culture of helping each other and collaborating, the various opportunities to help others and be creative, and much more all make PacifiCan a great place to work.
Can you share one of your greatest accomplishments?
My greatest accomplishment over the past year was stepping out of my comfort zone, embracing change, and finding the courage to take on a new challenge by joining PacifiCan, and now single-handedly managing the Agency’s entire translation department. When we face our fears, we discover that we can accomplish much more than we think, and that’s how we grow.
Can you give us one or two things that you enjoy outside of work? This can be a hobby or some fun fact that your colleagues may not know about you.
Outside of work, I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, rollerblading and snowshoeing. In the past few years, I’ve discovered a passion for social dance. I’ve taken many classes and participated in events in several cities and countries, and I recently started teaching. And of course, as a translator and lover of words, I love to read!
