Canada Student Loans - Medical and parental leave: How long you can be on leave

From: Employment and Social Development Canada

How long you can be on leave

Borrowers can be on leave for up to 6 months. At the end of this period, you can apply to extend your leave for 6 more months if needed.

Your leave starts on the first day of the month following your last day of school. You will not have to make payments on your loan from your last day of school to the beginning of your leave.

There is no lifetime limit on the leave but you cannot be on leave more than 18 months at a time. If you do return to school, you need to return for at least 30 days to be eligible to apply for another leave.
