Zero-emission vehicles - Incentives
Save money with incentives for buying a ZEV
We are making it more affordable to switch to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions through incentives for the purchase of ZEVs.
To date, hundreds of thousands of Canadians and Canadian businesses have benefited from the incentive programs, and many more are signing up each month.
Federal incentives
Federal incentives for buying or leasing ZEVs are available through two programs, based on vehicle type:
iZEV Program for light-duty vehicles
Up to $5,000 is available at the point of sale to Canadian individuals and businesses for the purchase or lease of light-duty ZEVs. Most personal vehicles, like cars, SUVs, and light pick-up trucks fall into the light-duty vehicle category.
iMHZEV Program for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles
Up to $200,000 is available at the point-of-sale to Canadian businesses and to organizations for the purchase or lease of medium- and heavy-duty ZEVs. Trucks, cargo vans, shuttles, and other commercial vehicles fall into the medium- and heavy-duty vehicle category.
Federal tax incentive for businesses
Canadian organizations and businesses can benefit from an enhanced first-year capital cost allowance on the purchase of an eligible ZEV. However, this option is not available in combination with the iZEV incentives. Learn more about whether this option is the right choice for your business.
Provincial incentives
Some provinces and territories offer incentives and rebates to support:
- buying new or used ZEVs
- the installation of residential chargers
- shipping costs for the purchase of a used ZEV
These could be combined with federal incentives. Check applicable provincial or territorial websites for up-to-date information on the incentives available in your region.
These provinces currently offer ZEV-related incentives:
- British Columbia
- New Brunswick
- Nova Scotia
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- Prince Edward Island
- Quebec
- Yukon
