1) Who can participate?
#ServiceInAction Instagram Challenge participation is open to youth in Canada who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or youth with a granted refugee status between 15 and 30 years old.
The Challenge is not open to employees, immediate family members of employees or persons living at the same address as an employee of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Furthermore, government organizations, Members of Parliament, celebrities, or other partners with social media accounts promoting the Challenge for ESDC and its Ministers, may participate and promote the Challenge, but are not eligible to be selected as one of the recipients of a Parks Canada Discovery Pass or to be featured on the Leaders Today social media accounts.
There is no fee to participate, and no purchase is necessary. Details on how to enter are listed under Section 3: Participation Requirements.
2) Participation period
Entries will be accepted from July 24th, 2023, at 9:00am (EDT) – August 10th, 2023, at 11:59pm (EDT). The results will be announced on August 12th, 2023, in recognition of International Youth Day, through a story on the Leaders Today Instagram channel.
3) Participation requirements
To enter, participants must:
- Review and ensure they understand the #ServiceInAction Instagram Challenge's rules and eligibility criteria
- Follow the steps to participate.
- Make sure to participate within the timeframe of the Challenge. No late entries will be considered.
To participate, participants must:
- Go on Instagram and "like" the Leaders Today post
- Follow @LeadersToday on Instagram
- Comment on the post to tell us about your volunteer experience, and what volunteering as a youth means to you
- If you are, or were a CSC program participant, tag or hashtag the organization you currently, or previously volunteered with.
Entry rules
- Entries must be made on the Leaders Today post(s) so that ESDC can access the content.
- Selected participants under the age of majority in their respective province or territory must obtain parental or legal guardian consent to receive a Parks Canada Discovery Pass and to be featured on the Leaders Today social media accounts.
Participation Eligibility
- Entries will be declared invalid if they are submitted after this Challenge closes.
- Entries will be declared invalid if they are illegible, incomplete, forged, corrupted, or reproduced from another person's work.
- Entries will be declared invalid if they negatively depict another person, nation, country, ethnicity, race, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Entries will be declared invalid if they contain content deemed offensive or inappropriate, including but not limited to nudity, vulgarity, or violence, or if they infringe Instagram's terms of use.
4) Evaluation criteria
Up to three (3) entries will be awarded through random selection. The Participants' odds of being selected will depend upon the total number of eligible entries received within the participation period. CSC will create an excel spreadsheet with all usernames of the Challenge's entries, up to three (3) of which will be randomly selected by MS Excel. This document will only be kept in ESDC's internal files for the duration of the Challenge.
Should a selected entry not meet the requirements outlined in Section 3: Participation Requirements, it will be declared null and void, and another selection may be made.
Selected entries will be announced on August 12th, 2023, to celebrate International Youth Day. ESDC reserves the right not to select a recipient if no entries are deemed suitable.
5) Selected Entries
Selection and disclaimer
ESDC will post a story on their Leaders Today channels to announce the selected recipients with the following: "Congratulations to @usernames (tag winners) on being randomly selected to receive a @parks.canada Discovery Pass! We will contact you via DM for next steps and highlight your amazing volunteer experiences on our account soon! Let's continue to give back! #CanadaServiceCorps #ServiceInAction #LeadersToday''.
If, for any reason, any of the selected participants cannot be reached through Instagram or does not respond within forty-eight (48) hours of being contacted, or if there is any reason they cannot accept the Parks Canada Discovery Pass, their entry will be declared null and void, and another selection may be made from eligible entries.
Use of personal information and photos
By participating in the #ServiceInAction Instagram Challenge, participants expressly consent to the collection, use, storage, and disclosure of their personal information (including their Instagram username) and by the Government of Canada for the purposes of administering this Challenge, as well as for other purposes expressly contemplated in these rules and regulations in accordance with the federal Privacy Act.
By participating, the participants expressly consent that ESDC may use the participants' personal information to communicate with them and to announce and/or post the usernames of the selected participants on the ESDC Leaders Today Instagram account.
Participants also have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) at any time regarding ESDC's handling of your personal information. For information about submitting a complaint with the OPC, please visit their website at www.priv.gc.ca.
Additional Personal Information Required
In addition to their participation on the Leaders Today post(s), participants will also have to provide personal information directly to ESDC when contacted by private message. Participants will be asked to provide their email address for the purpose of sending the selected participants a consent form, which will include a Privacy Notice Statement, by email to complete and sign to receive a Parks Canada Discovery Pass and to be featured on the Leaders Today social media accounts. For entries selected where the individual is under the age of majority in their province or territory, a parent or legal guardian must sign the consent form.
Participants will also be required to submit proof of their age (15-30 years old), proof of residency through any government approved identification to validate their identity and, if applicable, attest to their participation in a CSC-funded service opportunity. The selected recipients will also be required to submit a declaration that they are not an employee of ESDC, not an immediate family member of an employee of ESDC, and not living under the same roof as an employee of ESDC.
6) Parks Canada Discovery Pass disclaimer
The Parks Canada Discovery Pass is offered by CSC on behalf of ESDC. The Parks Canada Discovery Pass must be accepted as awarded — no substitutions, transfers or exchanges will be permitted. The Parks Canada Discovery Pass has no cash redemption value. CSC will make the necessary arrangements to deliver the Parks Canada Discovery passes to the selected recipients. The Parks Canada Discovery Pass must be accepted as described above and cannot be transferred to a third-party.
The Parks Canada Discovery Pass will be awarded only on verification by ESDC that the selected recipients are eligible to participate in this Challenge and that their entries meet the requirements specified above.
7) Correspondence
ESDC will not respond to questions regarding the Challenge's rules, including the eligibility criteria, from any participants except the confirmed selected recipients. If inquiries are made regarding this Challenge, an employee of ESDC will refer the individual to the Challenge's rules.
8) Statement and license
By sharing an entry on Instagram for this Challenge, the participant understands and agrees that the entry will also be subject to Instagram's terms of use and license.
By participating via Instagram in this Challenge, the participant acknowledges that the Challenge is in no way sponsored, endorsed, or administered by, or associated with Instagram.
By sharing an entry for the Challenge, the participant states that:
- the entry is their own original work;
- they own all the rights in the entry, including copyright;
- they meet the eligibility requirements of the Challenge;
- if under the age of majority, have obtained consent from their parent or legal guardian to participant.
ESDC reserves the rights, at its option, to re-share any selected recipients' name, social media handle, photograph, and statement regarding this Instagram Challenge, for the purposes of announcing the selected entries, without compensation or any other advance notice.
9) Release and exclusion of liability
By entering or attempting to enter this Challenge, each participant and/or purported participant agrees to release, discharge and forever hold harmless ESDC and its officers, directors, employees and agents from any and all claims, actions, damages, injuries, demands, manner of actions, causes of action, suits, debts, duties, accounts, bonds, covenants, warranties, indemnities, claims over, contracts and liabilities of whatever nature or kind arising out of or in connection with the participant's participation or attempted participation in this Challenge.
ESDC will not be responsible for lost, incomplete, late, or misdirected entries or for any failure of its website, nor for Instagram's platform performance. ESDC will not be responsible for any technical malfunction or other problems with any telephone networks or lines, computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment or software, or for any technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet.
His Majesty the King in Right of Canada assumes no responsibility to any Participant for any direct or indirect, special, consequential, or punitive damages in connection with the Challenge or these Rules and Regulations.
General
ESDC reserves the right to exclude from its social media pages any Challenge participation that does not comply with these rules and regulations or for any reason that ESDC determines in its sole discretion without notice at any time.
ESDC reserves the right to modify, suspend or cancel this Instagram Challenge in whole or in part for any reason at its sole discretion.
ESDC reserves the absolute right, at its sole discretion, to reject any participant who enters this Instagram Challenge in a manner that is contrary to these rules and regulations, disruptive to the proper operation of the Challenge, or by its nature is unjust to other participants.
This Challenge is subject to applicable federal, provincial, and territorial laws. This Challenge is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
Confirmation of the Understanding and Acceptance of the Terms and Conditions
Submission of an entry by Participants will be construed as the Participant acknowledging that they understand and accept the rules of the Challenge.
By participating in the #ServiceInAction Instagram Challenge, you confirm that you have read and understood these terms and conditions and that you accept them.
