Toronto woman found guilty of immigration fraud

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that on November 22nd, a 59-year-old Hamilton resident, Angela Codina, was convicted for immigration fraud. A jury at the Superior Court of Justice found Codina guilty of four counts of "Advise for Consideration without Authorization" contrary to section 91(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and one count of "Counsel Misrepresentation" contrary to section 126 of the IRPA.
In May 2014, following an extensive investigation by the CBSA Criminal Investigations Section, Codina was found to have accepted payment from individuals for immigration advice. She was charged with offenses under the IRPA and was remanded into custody and released in July 2014.
On September 17, 2015, Codina violated her bail conditions and was arrested for additional offenses under the IRPA as well as charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, and was once again remanded into custody.
A sentencing date is yet to be scheduled.
