Indigenous Advisory Circle

The Indigenous Advisory Circle (IAC) provides Library and Archives Canada (LAC) with advice, makes recommendations, and offers strategic direction regarding LAC’s engagement with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada.

The IAC fosters lasting trust by providing guidance based on the experience, expertise, values, and worldviews of its individual members.

LAC is committed to collaborating closely with Indigenous communities and representative groups to better support the long-term transmission of Indigenous heritages, and to make them accessible in a manner that is historically accurate and culturally appropriate.

Members

The IAC is composed of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis members who are familiar with historical research and archival studies of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada. Their professional, personal, and cultural expertise is invaluable in enhancing the national archives. Members may choose to represent their organizations, communities, or themselves, ensuring that diverse cultural perspectives are fairly and equally voiced.

IAC Members

LAC's Director General of Outreach and Engagement and Director of Indigenous Initiatives support the Circle and participate in its discussions.
