New ATIP progress report for LAC—June 2026
Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has published its latest progress report highlighting its efforts related to access to information and privacy (ATIP).
This eighth update outlines the progress made since the release of LAC’s ATIP action plan in August 2022. The ambitious plan was launched following an investigation by the Information Commissioner of Canada into LAC’s challenges in meeting the timelines established under the Access to Information Act.
Over the past few years, a series of policy and process improvements have significantly strengthened LAC’s ability to manage and process ATIP requests. Building on this progress, we have implemented measures to reduce the number and scope of consultations and further refined our related procedures. We have also made significant strides toward eliminating the backlog of personnel records requests. In addition, we reviewed and streamlined intake procedures, resulting in the implementation of new practices that improve efficiency, consistency and overall service delivery.
