Personal journeys: Sharing stories, discovering common ground
Library and Archives Canada invites you to Personal Journeys, an evening of storytelling, dialogue, and cultural exchange centred on lived experiences, shared understanding, and building connections across cultures.
Through personal narratives and conversation, Personal Journeys offers a space for reflection and cross cultural learning. By inviting speakers to share their individual paths, the event highlights both the richness of diverse perspectives and the common experiences that link communities to the wider public.
The panel brings together distinguished voices from academia, cultural studies, Indigenous programming, and the arts. Professor Boulou Ebanda de B'Beri, a media and cultural studies scholar at the University of Ottawa, will be joined by Ms. Tasha Simon, Senior Specialist with the Indigenous Program at the University of Ottawa, and Mr. Ron Korb, Grammy Award–nominated and Juno Award–winning flautist and composer. Together, they will explore how personal histories, creativity, and dialogue can deepen understanding across cultures.
The conversation will be moderated by Professor Adrian Harewood of Carleton University, a renowned retired CBC Television Ottawa news anchor, who will guide the discussion and facilitate audience engagement.
The evening will also feature a special 15 minute musical performance by Ron Korb, providing a reflective artistic complement to the discussion.
In addition, an art display will be presented, showcasing works by five distinguished local artists from diverse backgrounds: Andy Akangah, Emily Akikodjiwan Brascoupe-Hoefler, Maya Hum, Don Kwan, and An Nguyen. These works add a visual dimension to the event, exploring themes of identity, memory, and lived experience.
Light refreshments will be served.
