2021-22 Reporting on Green Procurement

PDF   Reporting on Green Procurement (PDF)

This supplementary information table supports reporting on green procurement activities in accordance with the Policy on Green Procurement.

Context

Although the ATSSC is bound by the Federal Sustainable Development Act but is not yet required to develop a full Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS), the ATSSC adheres to the principles of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) by complying with the Policy on Green Procurement.

The Policy on Green Procurement supports the Government of Canada’s efforts to promote environmental stewardship. In keeping with the objectives of the policy, the ATSSC supports sustainable development by integrating environmental performance considerations into the procurement decision making process through the actions described in the 2019 to 2022 FSDS “Greening Government” goal.

A target is set for 80% of the value of furniture with environmental considerations in the criteria.

All (100%) procurement of furniture processed through the procurement unit was acquired against Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) Supply Arrangements which include environmental considerations in the criteria.

FSDS: Green procurement incorporates environmental criteria into purchasing decisions. A significant portion of total furniture purchases have directly contributed to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

UN SDG: Target 12.7

Departments will adopt clean technology and undertake clean technology demonstration projects.

Create sustainable workplaces and promote the usage of clean technology tools.

Providing alternative working arrangements to decrease emissions and promote the usage of clean and sustainable technology through department-wide planning initiatives.

With the continuance of the COVID-19 pandemic, telework continued to be the primary means of working of all (100%) of ATSSC and tribunal staff, except for staff required to be on-site for operational reasons. In this context, the reduction of fuel consumption due to decreased traffic has resulted in a lowering of Greenhouse Gas emissions.

ATSSC and tribunal travel has also reduced significantly, as more hearings, mediations, conferences, and training are held virtually rather than in-person. The development of the ATSSC Future of Work Strategy and the implementation of hybrid and virtual hearings and mediations, as well as the development of a robust Audio-Visual Strategy, will provide further information and achievements related to the ATSSC's greening of government initiatives in future years.

FSDS: Greening government enables us to do our part to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the resilience of our own operations.

UN SDG: Target 13

Support for green procurement will be strengthened, including guidance, tools and training for public service employees.

Ensure decision makers have the necessary training and awareness to support green procurement.

Percentage of ATSSC staff with green procurement training and ensuring manager of procurement has a green procurement objective in performance management agreement.

77% (37 out of 48) of all acquisition cardholders have completed the Green Procurement training.

The manager of Procurement has a green procurement objective in their Performance Management Agreement (PMA).

FSDS: Equipping staff and decision makers with the knowledge to make sound decisions ensures that we make sustainable procurement and purchasing choices.

UN SDG: Target 12.7
