AgWeather: An Effective Risk Management Tool Available to the Agricultural Community as a Whole

April 11, 2016 – Quebec, Quebec – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), Pierre Paradis announced today a $3 million investment, in a project intended to strengthen the AgWeather Quebec tool, a website available to all agricultural entrepreneurs and stakeholders. AgWeather helps them to better assess risks associated with weather conditions, pesticide use, outbreak of pests, crop planning and marketing.

- The project is funded through the AgriRisk initiatives, established under the Canada-Quebec Growing Forward 2 agreement.
- AgWeather’s newly increased availability comes as the result a cooperative effort by the MAPAQ, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and La Financière agricole du Québec (project administrator).
- The purchase and installation of 84 new automated weather stations will allow for the generation of highly accurate hourly weather data.
