Ottawa and Quebec provide $75,644 in financial assistance to Les Viandes Rheintal

October 3, 2017 – Quebec City, Quebec – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec are providing $75,644 in financial assistance to Les Viandes Rheintal (9217-3632 Québec Inc.) for its project to implement a quality management system based on the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) method. This project will enable the company to improve and guarantee the quality of its food products.The financial assistance is being provided through component 2.2 of the Lever Program of the Quebec Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food under the Canada–Quebec Growing Forward 2 agreement.

Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Laurent Lessard, Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food made the announcement stating that the purpose of the Lever program is to improve the competitiveness of food processing companies in Quebec in a context of market globalization.

  • The purpose of the Lever program is to improve the competitiveness of food processing companies in Quebec in a context of market globalization.

  • Specifically, measure 2 of the program, entitled “Quality Systems”, aims to promote market access for food processing companies and to improve the quality of their products. Component 2.2 is aimed at supporting the implementation of quality management and food safety systems based on the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) method and leading to a recognized certification.

  • The food processing industry is a major economic engine for Quebec. It is the main manufacturing industry and employs nearly 66,100 people.

  • Nearly 70% of farm and fishery production is processed in the province.

  • Close to 80% of Quebec biofood exports are processed agricultural products.

  • Les Viandes Rheintal specializes in the production, processing and sale of certified organic meat and in the manufacture of a range of gluten-free delicatessen products that do not contain any chemical preservatives.
