Supporting Ontario Food and Beverage Processors
Backgrounder
Growing Forward 2 (GF2) was launched in 2013 and is a five-year commitment by Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments to support Canada's agri-food and agri-based products sector.
The initiative encourages innovation, competitiveness, market development, adaptability and industry sustainability.
Since its launch, 11 application intakes have been provided to Ontario food and beverage processors. These opportunities to apply for support have resulted in more than $50 million in cost-share funding for more than 950 projects in areas such as market development and labour productivity.
To date, here are some of the results of those investments:
Market growth/retention
- 94 per cent of Ontario food and beverage processor sector clients succeed in efforts to access a new market.
- 99 per cent of Ontario food and beverage processor sector clients succeeded in efforts to expand an existing market.
- 95 per cent of Ontario food and beverage processor sector clients succeed in efforts to achieve new sales.
- 70 per cent of Ontario food and beverage processor sector clients succeed in efforts to access a new export market.
- 69 per cent of Ontario food and beverage processor sector clients succeed in efforts to expand an existing export market.
- 80 per cent of Ontario food and beverage processor sector clients succeed in efforts to access a new domestic market.
- 85 per cent of Ontario food and beverage sector clients succeed in efforts to expand domestic market.
Business improvement
- 79 per cent of Ontario food and beverage clients achieved waste reduction through GF2 project efforts.
- 82 per cent of Ontario food and beverage clients achieved reduced downtime through GF2 project efforts.
- 81 per cent of Ontario food and beverage clients achieved improved product quality through GF2 project efforts.
