ASIP: All that’s missing is YOU!

Magazine Article / July 8, 2020 / Project number: RCAF-Excelsior-Summer-2020-5

The Royal Canadian Air Force Aerospace Warfare Centre (RCAF AWC) is actively seeking officers and non-commissioned members (NCMs) to fill close to 50 Air Reserve positions in the newly established Air & Space Integration Programme (ASIP). Selection is ongoing and will continue over the next 18 months.

The ASIP will “serve as an enabling ‘hub’ for air, space and all domain integrated warfare capability improvements,” says Colonel Martin Cournoyer, ASIP Director. “Our mandate is broad and will seek to incorporate expertise from numerous capability backgrounds, and we therefore need a wide range of specialists to join our team.”

The Programme is recruiting in seven streams: Modelling and Simulation Support; Air Exercises and Operational Event Management; Operations/Project Management; Advanced Air Warfare; Intelligence; Force Development; and Administration and Support.

“Although the majority of positions are located in Ottawa at Shirley’s Bay and at Carleton University, and in Trenton, Ontario, there is ample opportunity for someone to work from other locations,” says Lieutenant-Colonel Natasha Bolduc, ASIP Deputy Director. “For example, if a reservist living in Cold Lake is interested in a Reserve position in another location, but doesn’t want to move, and if they have access to the requisite computer networks, they would be an excellent addition to the organization we are building.”

The RCAF Reserve is employing innovative ideas to resolve today’s human resource challenges. The numerous innovations the RCAF is implementing to extend its air and space power capabilities go well beyond embracing alternative work arrangements.

“The RCAF Reserve is shifting its employment paradigm,” says Brigadier-General Mike Rafter, Director General Air Reserve, “first with the creation of the Air Operations Support Technician, and now with the Air and Space Integration Programme, which is another significant effort by the RCAF Reserve to support RCAF capabilities.”

“There are literally dozens of great Reserve employment opportunities available in the ASIP,” says LCol Bolduc. “We are using a modernized approach to Reserve Force staffing, hence we can offer a flexible team environment. My message is simple: ‘Join ASIP in supporting the RCAF of today and tomorrow!’”

The concept is in place, development has begun, orders have been given, and the first ASIP Reserve Employment Opportunity (REO) notices have already been posted. All that is missing, is you!
