Sarah Kelly was looking for a challenge and a way to contribute to her community when she heard about the opportunity to become an Air Operations Support Technician (AOS Tech) as a reservist in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Her journey towards that goal officially began on 8 December, 2020 when she was enrolled to serve in 103 Search and Rescue (SAR) Squadron, located at 9 Wing in Gander, Newfoundland, by its Commanding Officer, Major Mike O’Brien.

Aviator Kelly joins this extremely busy SAR squadron where (after she successfully completes the Basic Military Qualification course) she will receive training in Force Protection duties and in basic first-line air maintenance tasks, such as refueling and general aircraft servicing. She also could be selected for further training that would allow her to work in a maintenance capacity with the SAR Technician section, whose motto is, “That Others May Live.” An exciting journey, for sure!
