401 Tactical Fighter Squadron

Squadron Badge Significance : The mountain sheep, indigenous to many parts of Canada, is known for its great stamina and fighting power.

401 Tactical Fighter Squadron (Tac F Sqn) was stood up on 30 June 2015 at 4 Wing Cold Lake by separating equal portions of personnel and equipment from 409 Tac F Sqn, also based at 4 Wing Cold Lake.

The newly reformed 401 Squadron complements the duties of 409 Tac F Sqn and, assisted by 410 Tactical Fighter (Operational Training) Squadron, deploys tactical fighter forces to meet Canadian and allied defence needs. Under the umbrella of the NORAD mission, fighter crews are on stand-by 24/7 ready to respond to any aerospace threat.

The newly re-formed 401 Squadron is now one of two operational CF-18 squadrons at 4 Wing Cold Lake.
