Corporal Karla Olivares-Meza is from Ottawa, Ontario. She grew up seeing the Snowbirds fly past the parliament building every Canada Day. She joined the 137 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps where she spent 3 years developing an interest in the military. Her father’s passion for aviation led her to pursue a co-operative education position in her last year of high school at Sutton Aviation where she helped maintain Pipers and Cessnas from the Rockcliffe Flying Club. In the summer of 2017, she joined the Canadian Armed Forces as an Aviation Systems Technician and graduated the following year. Shortly after, she got posted to 431 Air Demonstration Squadron in Moose Jaw, where she now lives with her partner, two cats, and two geckos. Cpl Olivares-Meza is looking forward to her third year on the road with the Snowbirds team and this year will act as the Technical Coordinator.
