Basic Space Operations Course

The Basic Space Operations Course (BSOC) is a self-enrolling, computer based course hosted on the Distance Learning Network – the DLN. It provides the basics of space history, concepts and terminology associated with a wide variety of space systems.

The BSOC is a 40-60 hour Distance Learning course presented in an interactive, HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language) format. Students learn the fundamentals of space and its application in operations via the course’s 19 modules:

There is no limit to the number of students that can be registered at any one time and is available to all elements, military occupations and ranks.

There are no prerequisites to this course and is open to applicants from all occupations from foreign nations. Candidates should have strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English.

The course running on the DLN platform is open throughout the year for self-enrolment. Students have 90 days to complete the material and the one final, 50 multiple choice test to earn credit. Note; this course is the prerequisite for the Space Operations Course (code: AJBW 121908).

The BSOC staff are located at 17 Wing, at the RCAF W/C William G. Barker VC Aerospace College in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
