Transcript
What makes the Canadian Army unique? It's only land power that can seize and hold terrain, and our soldiers will do that — they are our most important capacity.
Hi, I'm Lieutenant-General Mike Wright, Commander of the Canadian Army. Over the coming weeks and months, you're going to hear a lot about Canadian Army modernization, and today I'm going to do the 60 Seconds Challenge — answer a bunch of your questions.
How do I stay battle ready physically and mentally? It's what I learned when I was a Second Lieutenant platoon commander. Start every day with PT — for both physical and mental resilience.
What part of your junior officer training shaped you most for command? I was incredibly fortunate to spend 4 years as a platoon commander and eight years in a row in infantry battalion learning from and operating with the senior NCO's.
What word should come to mind when we think Army modernization? Agile, scalable, and lethal.
How's the current modernization push different from previous initiatives? This full modernization effort has gone through an incredible amount of work. We are resourcing it, and we're moving boldly.
What's the impact of modernization for Soldiers in the field? It's getting you the equipment that you need, capabilities you need, and making sure that we have the Soldiers we need.
What does Army modernization imply for civilian defence team members? Civilian defence team members are part of the One Army team and they're critical to everything that we do in the Army, including in modernization.
Thanks very much for the opportunity to complete the 62nd Challenge.
Good!
