Into Their Second Century: An Illustrated History of the Royal Canadian Dragoons 1983-2018
This work continues the story of Canada’s senior armoured regiment, The Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD), forward from its centennial in 1983. Only a third of a century has passed since that anniversary – a relatively short period of time in the larger scheme of things – and yet it has been a period of immense change.
From the dedication by Peter Atkinson, Brigadier General (Ret’d), Colonel of the Regiment:
‘The Regiment has returned to Canada from Germany, deployed to Cyprus, Somalia, the Balkans and Afghanistan and supported numerous other missions round the globe. The Regiment went from being a tank regiment equipped with the Leopard I tank, to operating the Cougar tank trainer. It then converted to the Coyote and Light Armoured Vehicle and is now converting to the Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle and the next generation Light Armoured Vehicle while still having one squadron in Gagetown equipped with the Leopard II. The one constant throughout all this change is the soldiers and officers who have served this Regiment at home and abroad. They have done so with distinction and pride. This volume of our history is dedicated to all Dragoons who have given of themselves in service to our great nation.’
Lavishly illustrated with maps, hundreds of colour photos, and appendices, this work covers the history of the Regiment from the last days in Germany through the final tours in Afghanistan to today.
