Submission Guidelines
Line of Sight welcomes the submission of articles and shorter pieces such as book reviews and opinion pieces from both academia and the field force. The site also welcomes book reviews, and suggestions for links to websites, case studies, podcasts, videos, webinars and wargames.
For Authors of New Material
Book review, Opinion pieces and Article submissions will follow the guidelines outlined below:
- Submissions may be made in either official language and must include a one paragraph biographical sketch (including individual’s qualifications and experience).
- Provide current appointment/telephone number/email address for editorial process.
- Articles will be initially assessed by PME Staff and if necessary, will be distributed for peer review.
- All text submissions must be Microsoft Word or rich text format.
- Use endnotes and send supporting tables, figures, diagrams and images in separate files.
- Do NOT embed such material in the Word document. High resolution psd/jpg files are necessary (not less than 300 dpi). Non-Department of National Defence material requires copyright permission. The author is solely responsible for obtaining and submitting written permission which must include the author’s/artist’s name as well as the publishers’ name and location. Any material which fails to meet this requirement will be omitted from the submission.
- Use Oxford English spelling and Chicago Manual of Style.
- Book reviews will not exceed 750 words.
- Opinion Piece length will not exceed 1000 words.
- Article length will not exceed 3000 words.
Note: PME Staff reserve the right to accept or reject the submission and the right to edit manuscripts for grammar, style and length. PME Staff will not edit to the extent that the argument’s integrity is affect without consulting the author.
For Submission of Other Forms of Material
All other submissions including websites, case studies, podcasts, videos, webinars and wargames will follow the guidelines outlined below:
- Ensure material is from creditable organizations, official government agencies, regarded think tanks and Allied military sites. Do NOT submit material from fringe/marginal sites.
- Ensure links are for the actual material and not simply to a landing page (unless the material is clearly recognizable on a landing page). Test links before submitting.
- Ensure the length of video/podcasts, etc. does not exceed 20 mins.
- If submitting newly designed (by the submitter) case study material, ensure that it includes clearly articulated guidelines and high-resolution imagery/maps and does not exceed 1500 words.
- If submitting material for The Vault please ensure it is in PDF form, that the images are clear and that it is declassified.
