Lucy Falastein
Meet our team
Lucy Falastein, Director, Cabinet Affairs and Policy Advocacy, Ottawa, Ont.
Working with ACOA has introduced Lucy Falastein to a region of Canada she didn’t know much about: the Atlantic provinces. Lucy was born in Cairo, Egypt, and grew up in Saskatchewan. Now she works in Ottawa.
“Since joining ACOA, I have a greater appreciation for the significant opportunities for economic growth in Atlantic Canada in almost every sector,” says Lucy. “This region is positioned to be a national leader in so many ways, including economic growth.”
ACOA, she adds, is uniquely qualified to support economic growth in Atlantic Canada by working with communities, businesses, and stakeholders in the region, and by working within the federal family to ensure that East Coast issues, concerns and interests are taken into consideration.
To date, Lucy’s work with the federal government has been primarily in intergovernmental affairs, liaising with colleagues in provinces and territories across the country. Among the departments Lucy has worked with are Health Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada. As director of cabinet affairs and policy advocacy, Lucy keeps the lines of communication open between her colleagues in the Atlantic region and those in Ottawa. She recently worked on the federal budget submission for 2021, supporting the minister in cabinet.
“The work of my team contributes to the economic development of Atlantic Canada by leveraging federal investments from other government departments to support Atlantic interests and opportunities.”
“In a country as vast as Canada, the risk of regional disparities is very real,” adds Lucy, a political science graduate. “ACOA works to ensure that economic growth is supported in Atlantic Canada.”
