As of July 1, 2023, the population of Atlantic Canada was more than 2.6 million, an increase of 71,993 from July 1, 2022 (+2.8%). This is the strongest growth rate since 1952.

Housing starts in Atlantic Canada rose by 5.6% in 2023, while nationally they fell by 8.2%.

Moncton, Halifax and Charlottetown were the fastest-growing cities in the country in 2022.

Over 17,000 more Canadians moved to Atlantic Canada than left between July 1, 2022 and July 1, 2023.

The number of immigrants has grown by about 17,000 a year from 2015 to 2023.

Atlantic Canada has seen strong growth in the proportion of the population with tertiary education, 3% per year from 2015 to 2022, compared to 2% per year nationally.

Diverse business owners

Over 22% of start-up companies founded or led by women in 2022, up from 19% in 2021.

Immigrant founded or led companies made up over 25% of all startup businesses in 2022, up from 19.6% in 2021.
