Federal Government Invests in Leading Edge Geomatics Ltd

News Release

LEG will purchase specialized equipment designed to help manage electrical utility infrastructure

March 30, 2016 – Lincoln, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Leading Edge Geomatics Ltd (LEG), a leader in airborne remote sensing and geomatics, is purchasing new, specialized equipment to expand their operational capabilities and increase their competitiveness in providing  aerial LiDAR and photo mapping services to electrical utility companies, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada, through ACOA.

Matt DeCourcey, Member of Parliament for Fredericton, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The project involves the purchase and installation of Power Line Specific LiDAR equipment.  LiDAR or Light Detection and Ranging is an optical remote sensing technology which measures properties of scattered light to find range and/or other information of a distant target.

With the purchase of this latest, innovative equipment, LEG will be able to offer electric utilities the capability to inspect poles, monitor vegetation and manage right of ways while capturing 3D geospatial intelligence information.  This information will enable utility customers to strategically manage the long-term health of their infrastructure. Overall, the project is expected to create up to nine new jobs over a two-year period.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, provided a repayable contribution of $254,500 to Leading Edge Geomatics while the company also contributed $254,500 toward this project.

Leading Edge Geomatics is an incorporated professional remote sensing and geomatics firm. With 43 years of combined staff experience in the geomatics industry, the company has worked on projects throughout North America conducting national level survey projects.
