Making a Difference at the Glace Bay Legion
News Release
Government of Canada Supporting Community Infrastructure at Local Royal Canadian Legion
Glace Bay, N.S. - Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Today, the Government of Canada announced an investment of $24,903 in the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 003 in Glace Bay to complete needed renovations. This funding, made through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, will contribute to the preservation of the Legion as a vital resource to commemorate the service of veterans for years to come.
This support, received through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), will assist the Legion in the acquisition and installation of a new heating system, as well as electrical upgrades throughout the facility. These improvements will enhance building safety and energy efficiency, and enable the Legion to better serve veterans, members and area residents as it hosts meetings, entertainment and other community events.
The Cape Breton Regional Municipality contributed $15,000 to this project.

Background
The installation of heat pumps will assist in lowering the Branch 003’s winter heating costs. The heat pumps also function as air conditioners, which will positively impact the Legion's ability to raise funds by the renting the hall in the summer.
Community facilities across Canada play a critical role in contributing to quality of life and economic activity throughout all regions. Many of these facilities are in need of updates and repairs in order to continue to benefit their communities. In commemoration of Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the national Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is providing up to $150 million over a two year period to support projects that rehabilitate, renovate and expand existing public infrastructure.
