Government of Canada supports projects in Crapaud

Infrastructure improvements to key community locations will provide social and economic benefits

April 28, 2016 – Crapaud, PE – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Member of Parliament for Malpeque, the Honourable Wayne Easter, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today joined officials and volunteers at the South Shore Actiplex to announce a total investment of $52,044 under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) for the Community of Crapaud and the South Shore Community Organization. In Atlantic Canada, CIP 150 is administered through ACOA.

The two projects involve infrastructure upgrades to the South Shore Professional Centre and the South Shore Actiplex. Community Centre upgrades involve improvements to the library, and fire department, while the Actiplex upgrades will improve efficiencies in the rink, the fitness centre and the community room.

Background

The Community of Crapaud will receive $36,106 from the CIP150 to carry out infrastructure upgrades at the South Shore Professional Centre. The Centre houses the municipal office, community library, and the fire department. Upgrades include repairs to the fire hall roof, renovation to the front entrance of the library to improve accessibility, as well as replacing library shelving and furniture. The Community, with support from project supporters, will match the CIP150 investment.

The South Shore Community Organization, a not-for-profit organization that operates the South Shore Actiplex, will receive $15,938 from CIP150 and will match the same amount to add a water treatment system to ensure the longevity of the ice plant and refrigeration unit. Upgrades will also include replacement of oil tanks, upgrades to washrooms in the rink area, more functional flooring in the fitness centre, user-friendly changes to the community room, and new exterior signage.
