Community Infrastructure Upgrades Announced for Conception Bay South

Government of Canada supports work to improve recreational infrastructure in the Town
May 11, 2016 – Conception Bay South, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Today, Ken McDonald, MP for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced more than $142,000 in support from the Government of Canada’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program for the Town of Conception Bay South. The announcement was made by MP McDonald at the official opening of the new town hall.
Through this investment the Town of Conception Bay South will upgrade five existing recreational facilities, including: the CBS Recreation Complex (replace lockers and electrical timing system for swimming pool); Sgt. Ned Nugent’s Complex (repair exterior of building and purchase/install new backstop for ballfield, carry out drainage repairs to parking lot, resurface/pave parking lot, replace soccer nets, and install a score clock and base for softball field); Richard Parsons Memorial Park (install a score clock and base, purchase/install new backdrop at ballfield); Stoney Hill Baseball Field (replace dugouts, improve landscaping and fencing, install safety nets, upgrade bleachers, and install a new score clock and base); and Stoney Hill Tennis Complex (purchase new tennis nets, posts and windscreens).
The national CIP150 initiative is providing up to $150 million over two years to support projects that rehabilitate, renovate and expand existing public infrastructure for communities. It is part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The program is expected to boost economic activity through infrastructure investments, build community-based partnerships and modernize existing community facilities.
