Tatamagouche Road Train On Track for Summer

News Release

Government of Canada invests to create Tatamagouche Village Road Train

Tatamagouche, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency - Visitors and residents of Tatamagouche are in for a treat this summer as the Tatamagouche Road Train Society will soon unveil a much-anticipated road train that will provide a unique transportation experience in the community. The Government of Canada has announced a $47,000 non-repayable investment in the project through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF). The unveiling event is planned for this Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. next to the Foodland in Tatamagouche.

The project involved the purchase of a locomotive-style road vehicle, featuring a two-seat engine car and a 28-seat passenger car. The Tatamagouche Road Train is a replica of a Canadian National Railway car from the 1950’s and can operate at a top speed of 25km/hour. It will provide tours for residents and tourists from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. 7 days/week during the spring, summer and fall. The train will follow three different routes around the Village, with one running along a section of the Trans Canada Trail. It will also make stops at popular destinations including Main Street, the Creamery Square, and Nelson Memorial Park.

As the first road train of its kind in Canada, the Tatamagouche Village Road Train will significantly add to the area’s appeal amongst tourists who are drawn to the area for Oktoberfest, Jost Vineyard, the Farmers’ Market at Creamery Square, Fox Harb’r, and the many other events, festivals and attractions in the region. It is also expected that the train will be a favourite among the more senior residents of Tatamagouche as they will be able to rely on the train for cost-effective, reliable transportation.

The project is also being supported with an investment of $10,000 from the Municipality of the County of Colchester.
