Two Rivers Wildlife Park opens new Welcome Centre
June 17, 2016 – Huntington, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Another valuable addition has opened at Two Rivers Wildlife Park in Huntington, NS. Today, MP Mark Eyking on behalf of Rodger Cuzner, Member of Parliament for Cape Breton–Canso, was on site to officially open the Park’s new Welcome Centre. While celebrating the grand opening, MP Eyking announced that in addition to the original $389,775 investment to assist with the construction of this new building, the Government of Canada invested an additional $180,000 to assist with improvements to the campsites.
The non-repayable contribution through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF), enabled Two Rivers Development Association to construct the new Welcome Centre, which houses registration services for visitors coming to the Park, as well as a gift shop, restroom facilities, and amenities to support campers. In addition to the new construction, the Park’s campsites are being enhanced to provide three-way service with the addition of water, septic, and electricity services. This project also received $240,647 in support for the Province of Nova Scotia.
The popular tourist venue has seen many upgrades over the years from petting zoos, walking and cross country ski trails, recreation facilities, and even horse-drawn carriage rides. These improvements continue to expand the park’s offerings and draw in more visitors.
The Two Rivers Wildlife Park is a 500-acre community-run park located where the Salmon River meets the Mira River. The unique geography is such that the two rivers together form natural boundaries that surround most of the park. The land is fertile and the hills are gentle thus an abundance of natural wildlife and plant species adds to the natural beauty of the area. With the addition of this new Welcome Centre, the Park’s 44,000 annual visitors will enjoy additional comforts and convenience, enhancing their overall park experience.
