Government of Canada Invests in Community Infrastructure in Stephenville Crossing
News Release
Investment announced to upgrade outdoor attractions
June 28, 2016 – Stephenville Crossing, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Town of Stephenville Crossing is improving outdoor attractions and amenities in the community, thanks in part to a contribution from the Government of Canada. Gudie Hutchings, Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced a contribution of $19,103 from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) towards this project.
The project includes upgrades to a walking trail, bridges and a picnic area in an existing conservation area in Stephenville Crossing. Work will include resurfacing the walking trail with pea stone, replacing planks along the bridge, replanting trees and shrubs and replacing picnic tables and benches. The improved landscape will enable visitors to enjoy the existing conservation area, which is known to be a gathering area for more than 200 species of birds.
As outlined in Budget 2016, an additional $150 million is being provided over two years for CIP 150, bringing the total funding available to $300 million. The program supports projects to renovate, expand and improve spaces such as community centres, parks and arenas across Canada as part of the Government of Canada’s celebration of our country’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. CIP 150 continues to be delivered by ACOA in Newfoundland and Labrador.
